Image Intensifiers

An image intensifier is an electro-optical system which increases the intensity of available light. This makes it possible to see under low-light conditions, to test fluorescent materials under X-rays or gamma rays, and to convert non-visible light, such as near-infrared and ultraviolet light to visible light.
Penlink represents Photonis, a world leader in the production of image intensifiers for military, space, and commercial applications. Photonis supplies all NATO member states with products that are used on missions all over the world. Image intensifiers are also used, such as in film cameras, to allow filming in the dark. For example, Discovery Channel is one company that uses Photonis image intensifiers.
ONYX tubes
Instead of green phosphorus, the ONYX tubes use white phosphorus. Soldiers without experience using night vision goggles have indicated that they have a better feeling of their surroundings when using ONYX tubes as opposed to using tubes with green phosphorus.
16-mm tubes
Photonis has managed to develop a tube, which has 40% less volume than a standard tube. The smaller volume also means reduced weight of 35 grams, which is a significant difference in regard to night vision goggles.
